Simple naan breads, flavoured with garlic clove and fresh coriander, are fast and simple to create.

Each serving provides 270 kcal, 6g protein, 42g carbohydrates (which 3.5g sugars), 8.5g fat (which 2.5g saturates), 2g fibre and .7g salt.

Ingredients

  • 250g/9oz plain flour
  • 2 teaspoon sugar
  • teaspoon salt
  • teaspoon baking powder
  • 120ml/4fl oz milk
  • 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil, plus extra for greasing
  • nigella seeds, poppy seeds or sesame seeds, or chopped garlic clove and fresh coriander
  • 1 tablespoons of butter, melted, for everyone

Method

For that dough, sift the flour, sugar, salt and baking powder right into a bowl. In another bowl, mix together the milk and oil.

Create a well within the center from the flour mixture and pour within the liquid mixture. Gradually mix together the dough by working in the center and incorporating the flour in the edges from the ‘well’, to create a smooth, soft dough. Knead well for 8–10 minutes, adding just a little flour when the dough is simply too sticky.

Put the dough into an oiled bowl, cover having a moist tea-towel and then leave inside a warm spot for 10–15 minutes. Make up the dough into five balls.

Preheat the grill to medium and put huge baking sheet around the upper shelf from the grill to heat.

Roll the dough balls out quite thinly, ideally inside a teardrop shape, however , case aesthetic. Sprinkle over your selected topping and press into the top of dough. Put the naans to the hot baking sheet and grill for 1–2 minutes, or until gently browned. Brush with butter and serve hot.
